Crab & Lobster Inn
32 Forelands Field Road, Bembridge, PO35 5TR
Well bedded down in the most traditional part of the Isle of Wight - thank you, Queen Victoria - The Crab and Lobster is as good as its title and really comes up with the goods. Like most seafood havens it has the goodness to recognise that there are other forms of sustenance, so expect to find ham, egg and chips, pork fillet with fennel, rosemary and mustard sauce, and chargrilled sirloin steak with mushrooms and fries. This will also have the benefit of leaving more of the fruits de mer for the enthusiasts who scan eagerly the lobster specials, whole Dover soles and a wide variety of variations on lobster and crab, such as crab cakes, sandwiches and salads. There is something particularly bewitching about sitting on a sunny terrace overlooking the Solent and English Channel whilst savouring the flavour and texture of some of its former inhabitants.Well bedded down in the most traditional part of the Isle of Wight - thank you, Queen Victoria - The Crab and Lobster is as good as its title and really comes up with the goods. There is something particularly bewitching about sitting on a sunny terrace overlooking the Solent and English Channel whilst savouring the flavour and texture of some of its former inhabitants. Add to this the pleasures of well-kept household names in real ales, well-supported by the quirky Fuggle-Dee-Dum from the local Goddards brewery, and you have a recipe for true contentment.
She might not have been amused but I wouldn't mind betting Prince Albert would have slipped away given half a chance.

REVIEWS OF Crab & Lobster Inn

Last weekend my boyfriend and I went to the Isle of Wight. The Crab and Lobster Inn was suggested in all travel guides we had so we decided to go there. Well, I ordered some grilled fish and my boyfriend, a plate of tagliatelle with seafood about £15 pounds each. I was really surprised when the waitress brought me the plate ordered because it was with a dash of chocolate on top! I’ve never eaten fish with chocolate and after I tasted I would never eat it again. My boyfriend's experience was worst. His pasta was completely tasteless and the tomato sauce was just red water. He couldn't eat it and went on to complain and asked for something else to eat. Well, the waitress told him that she had to check the plate! She came to our table to check if he was lying or not and of course the plate was full because no one could eat that kind of food. So, we had to insist that we have something else and we also asked about the difference in the bill because the second order was simple fish and chips of around £10. The lady didn't offer us any complementary but she just reply ‘maybe you can take a coffee’ well £5 of coffee? So, the fish and chips arrived after three minutes and it was completely raw inside, probably frozen. My boyfriend left it in the plate.

This is a delightful pub and restaurant, although tucked away in a residential part of Bembridge, is well signposted and well worth the effort to get there. Try to remember how you got in, because getting out can be tricky.
The food is excellent, there are cliff top views outside, and the service is friendly. My usual eating place whenever I visit the delightful Isle of Wight from just across the Solent where I live - I know I can always be assured of a good meal at a very reasonable cost.
