CragRats Brasserie Description
CragRats Brasserie has established an excellent reputation for its culinary expertise, both locally and beyond. The Brasserie, established in 2003 and located near to Hepworth, is an elegant fine dining restaurant and bar; you can enjoy picturesque views across the rolling hills, a perfect setting to enjoy a delicious meal. The interior of CragRats Brasserie is stylish and beautifully decorated. There are high quality fittings throughout with leather and suede furnishings which follow a sumptuous theme of chocolate and cream, while subtle lighting adds to the serene and welcoming atmosphere.
Leeds Guide's Andrew Brown described CragRats Brasserie as: "The uber-stylish should make the 20-minute journey out of the town centre to CragRats Brasserie. Actually they let scruffs like me in as well but design buffs will adore its fashionably retro straight lines awash with deep browns and beige.
Clad in black and self-consciously cool, staff will serve you up some slow-roasted chilli belly pork, follow it with cod, lime and fresh pea tart, sour cream, rocket salad, red onion salsa and who knows, maybe a biscuit glace noisette with raspberry sauce - assuming your Armani clad waistline is up to it."
The menu is pleasantly esoteric, lighter and simpler at lunchtime, offering dishes such as homemade chicken liver parfait, peach chutney, gruyère toasts or seared fillet of mackerel, warm salad of chorizo, potato and fresh peas, citrus aioli to start followed by beer battered fillet of cod with pont neuf potatoes, pea purée and tartare sauce; steak, mushroom and kidney pie, pommes purée, onion gravy or homemade ravioli filled with roasted peppers, tomato and feta, tomato and herb nage.
There are also sandwiches like the delicious sounding chargrilled steak on ciabatta with sticky onions and Stilton; lemon and black pepper chicken on foccacia with pancetta, brie and cranberry or tomato and goat's cheese rarebit with basil pesto - not exactly the normal Ploughman's or choice of ham and cheese!
Then it is slightly more sophisticated in the evening with starters of grilled scallops on the shell with ginger, soy and chilli, coconut and lime rice or confit of duck leg and black pudding tagine, rosemary and orange jus, with mains such as roasted pork fillet wrapped in Parma ham, farci of peaches and brie, fricassé of puy lentils with mustard and ginger or chargrilled beef fillet, horseradish mash, beetroot fondant, red wine and thyme jus.
Don't miss their desserts like white chocolate and passion fruit pannacotta, passion fruit sauce; espresso crème brûlée with pistachio biscuits or homemade treacle tart with clotted cream.
With wines starting from £13.95 no wonder it is a great success, and also is an ideal venue to hold a wedding reception, private function or business event.

I went here for the first time during the Spring 2006 for lunch one Saturday and what a wonderful setting and restaurant it is, going again with friends this evening for my birthday and can’t wait....what a delightful treat.
D. Reynolds (20 August 2006)
What a fabulous restaurant, visited last night for the first time with some friends. We ordered drinks in the bar and sat in the lounge area where the waiter took our menu choices. We then remained in the lounge drinking until shown to out table where our starters were served immediately. The menu was varied with something for everyone. The brasserie menu is different than the bar restaurant.
We had the following starters, ribs, pate, houmous, olives and pitta breads, and smoked salmon. For mains we had, chilli prawns, lamb cutlets, rib eye steak and a asparagus frittata vegetarian dish. Finally desserts were apple torte, crème brûlée and apple and apricot crumble.
We did not have any wine (for a change) but they had Magners which is all the craze. The bill for 4 of us came to £150.00 so not too bad and the food was excellent. Well worth a visit.
