Crazy Bear - Stadhampton
Bear Lane, Stadhampton, OX44 7UR
The Crazy Bear opened doors at Stadhampton in 1993 and have quickly built a reputation for fun and flamboyance in a relaxed setting. An 8 foot brown bear towers over the bar and a red London bus serves as hotel reception - quirks such as these, combined with the comforts of a roaring log fire, polished copper and oak beams create an oasis of individuality - warm, fun and sophisticated. There are two award winning restaurants, each having two AA Rosettes. At the Thai restaurant you could try crispy duck salad with mango, roasted cashews, pomegranate, spring onions, and cherry tomatoes, and steamed red snapper with lemongrass, galangal, chillies, garlic, kaffir lime leaves and coriander. In the English restaurant, diners enjoy dishes like confit belly of home reared Gloucestershire Old Spot pork with Lyme Bay scallops, apple, chorizo and crispy potato. The Crazy Bear opened doors at Stadhampton in 1993 and have quickly built a reputation for fun and flamboyance in a relaxed setting. REVIEWS OF Crazy Bear - Stadhampton
Katia (13 June 2006)
What a brilliant restaurant! Came here for my birthday and stayed in one of the exquisite suites. You will be bowled over by the extensive menu. One wonders how they manage to fit it all in the kitchen! Be warned though, Krug goes straight to your head!
Sam Bennett (27 March 2006)
Wacky it may be, frivolous decor with exotic style and panache that conjures up the image of a drug fuelled decorator combined with an extreme taste in tacky finishes. This place has dated quickly along with the accumulating muck secreted in the wine bottle ceiling of the restaurant and the fetid bear skin in the bar. A thin line between entertainment for the uninitiated or a cheap way of covering up the basic structures, great fun.
