Crown Inn

7 Debdale Hill, Old Dalby, nr Melton Mowbray, LE14 3LF

Originally a farmhouse built in 1519 the creeper-covered Crown Inn is a quality village pub run on professional lines and producing original and exciting food. Consider the Crown Feast, a tureen of home made soup, a joint to carve at your table served with freshly cooked vegetables followed by a choice of pudding. And should you have overdosed on the excellent soup and be found wanting when it comes to the joint you can take home what is left. For those to whom a pint or so of English best is paradise, before, after or during your meal the roll call of respected names is music to the palate. There is also a respected wine list. An enterprising range of events contains many that are meal-associated.

REVIEWS OF Crown Inn

David Sykes (8 May 2007)

The pub has recently been taken over by Jack and Carolyn Harrison. Jack is well known in the area as an excellent chef having formerly owned The Olde Stocks Restaurant in Grimston. The food at The Crown is absolutely superb - in my opinion even better than The Martins Arms at Colston Bassett which has become very expensive. It is an unspoilt pub with heaps of character and an attractive garden with outdoor seating for both dining and drinking. The food offers real value for money and I would recommend a visit as soon as possible. Booking is recommended as the word is spreading fast!

John (9 January 2005)

Still a charming old pub, with great beer for the real ale brigade. But the food does not quite match the high standards of years gone by, with the old owners now running the Martins Arms at Colston Bassett.

Nevertheless, service is friendly and it is still good value for a lunchtime bite and a chat around an open fire even if it might not be quite what is required for an evening engagement.
