Cru Restaurant & Bar Description
The recently opened Cru in Hoxton is an experience many will not wish to miss. For those who suffer a perception blank at the mention of Hoxton, wise up, man - this is the place to be, particularly if you happen to like art galleries. Nicolas Serota would feel at home.
A converted warehouse, with all the opportunities that this presents for originality in design, provides the setting. At the time of writing one can only say that once the place is sorted out it has considerable promise of brilliance. Since Anton Edelman is an adviser to the kitchen is it too much to expect that this will indeed happen?
With a name like Cru one would look for more than passing deference to matters of wine. The list is there alright but the knowledge has yet to be acquired by those who dispense. This is an exciting place which deserves to succeed. My guess is, it will.

I was recently taken here for a romantic dinner. My initial slight disappointment about the lack of food I would usually choose (it's quite meaty fare and the vegetarian option was mushrooms which I’m not so keen on) was soon reversed into one of the most pleasant restaurant experiences I've had in London.
I ended up with the duck and it was absolutely delicious - nice and crispy on the outside and very juicy meat inside, not fatty at all. The service is very attentive and you don't feel squashed or hurried like in so many places. It's quite trendy as well without being pretentious and they have an excellent wine list. All this doesn't come cheap but if you want to leave a lasting impression with someone, this is the place to go!
