I consider myself a ‘local customer’ at the Cuban. I used to love going there in the evenings for some Latin salsa and lovely cocktails. Having been there many a time I can honestly say I will never go again. The service is appalling, if you are there to eat during the day or drink at night. The portions are very small for the price and everything tastes as if it’s microwaved. If you are there at night and fancy a cocktail, or a drink for that matter, be prepared to wait at least thirty minutes and when you do finally get served you are faced with a grumpy unwelcoming grunt and an eye roll if you order a complicated drink. I waited fifteen minutes for two double rums and coke. I mean how slow one could be. It’s so frustrating.
The atmosphere is great for a first timer, but after a while it is the same music every weekend. The staff obviously doesn’t want to be there and think they are somehow superior to you because they work there. I work in a restaurant myself and I know what fast efficient service is, service with a smile, they definitely don’t.
