Cuckoo Club, The
Swallow Street, London, W1B 4EZ
The former Stork Room has given way to another boutique eatery, with a commanding décor and music that will take you back a bit, but not too far. Expect Stones. Head Chef Andy Glover has quickly established a reputation for food that also commands, which could be described as indulgent or comfortable. Either way his patrons seem left in no doubt about its zing factor. Such dishes as truffle-filled fillet of Welsh black beef, coupled with a wild mushroom and celeriac dauphinoise certainly excite the tastebuds, but be sure to leave room for their bread and butter pudding with crème anglaise that combines sophistication with the filling capabilities of the sort Mum used to make. The former Stork Room has given way to another boutique eatery, with a commanding décor and music that will take you back a bit, but not too far. A wine list of stature assists greatly in making the food here most surely one to watch.

REVIEWS OF Cuckoo Club, The
Den (16 April 2008)
We heard so much about The Cuckoo Club and made a reservation for 8pm on a Saturday. We turned up at 7.50pm and were told our table had been given to a member and we no longer had a reservation. When I complained there was no one to help or offer an apology. It was very disappointing.
Ozer Khalid (24 April 2006)
When Christian Slater is not flying one over the cuckoo’s nest, a la Nicholson, he waltzes into 5000 square feet of delectable dissipation at Cuckoo’s, attuning his eardrums to the rock hybrids blasting majestically out of speakers with sonic delights such as The Libertines and Kasabian spun together with sprinkles of The Rolling Stones.
Seduced further by resident Dom T`s smooth vibes, guests can head up from subterranean bliss to the ground floor restaurant only to savour head chef Andy Glover`s concoctions such as Beef Celeriac Dauphinoise or Chocolate Vinsanto Fondant.
Delightfully teasing the tongue, and not the wallet, Bar Manager Mark Fairweather and menu guru Jussi Willehard Kalmi make sure to engender mouth froth with ultimate thirst-quenchers such as “The Roadrunner”- a splash of Tequila, vanilla pods, Canadian maple syrup and free range egg white or the “Purple Lady” a mélange of Tanqueray gin, Martini rose vermouth and orange bitters.
If purple ladies don’t tickle your fancy then maybe ladies such as Jemma Kidd, Elle McPherson and Alice Temperley would as they diplomatically engage in their ambassadorial roles as high representatives of a salubrious membership committee. Jump into the fray iconoclasts such as Bryan Ferry, Patrick Cox, Freddy Windsor and Joseph Fiennes and the corps diplomatique is ready! Interior décor firm BlackSheep scintillates mirrors, ebony stands, purple armchairs glittering under dazzling LED ceilings with violet lights.
Come fly by this “cuckoo’s” nest, for it is graced with opulent plumage!
