Curlew at Bodiam, The Description

The Curlew is a classic weather boarded Grade II Sussex pub by the Bodiam Castle crossroads. The dining area is well supplied with mirrors, artwork, Villeroy and Boch cutlery and other tasteful nick-nacks that help create an informal atmosphere.

The food at The Curlew blends in the Mediterranean and modern British cuisines with a lighter touch, as an antidote to many of today's waist conscious offerings. Spanish and Italian influences also have their place with dishes such as carrot and caugette cannelloni with spiced pumpkin and chorizo, Napoli salami and rocket. Main courses are based around fish, meat and game featuring tiger prawn tempura and extra mature rib-eye steak. The miniature dessert platter is a popular addition to the menu, along with other favourites such as  dark chocolate marquesa and crème brûlée.

A pond and a bronze fountain complete the pretty picture of a  garden where diners can either enjoy a bar snack or lunch on a warm sunny day.

Your Reviews of Curlew at Bodiam, The

Dr Noble (7 January 2007)

This restaurant come gastropub is an excellent find. The service was great, the atmosphere combined opulence, professionalism, along with comfort and cosiness; truly unique. The food was even better than all of these: my taste buds want more even now three days after having eaten there. Their wine list was loaded with over 200 wines from around the world. I highly recommend this place, just be careful; book in advance, they were packed even on the Monday I went down there!! Well done the Curlew.

Dr R. Noble (17 June 2006)

Have been to the Curlew several times before. Food always very good in past, though service had been on and off. This last year however, the food has been out of this world and the service very professional. My last visit was last night (16 June 2006). The place was busy, and my party and I were apprehensive that this might let our experience down. We should not have worried. This place gets better and better with each visit. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to eat great food, and wants professional but friendly service. I am going back on Bastille day, they have a special menu on. See you there.
