Rumour has it that on a quiet day it is possible to hear the choir intoning at Evensong in the Minster, just across the road from the D.C.H restaurant located in the Dean Court Hotel, which must have without doubt the most enviable location in York. Inside, the style is stunningly contemporary - a wonderful contrast to the elegant Victorian exterior. An air of calm prevails and if you are fortunate your table will be in one of the alcove windows looking out on to the sunlit/floodlit Minster.

To begin with, the breast of wood pigeon, puy lentil ragout and sherry jus or gin-cured salmon with fennel infusion are excellent choices. The main course could then be the roast rack of lamb, dauphinois potatoes, smoked ham and red currant sauce. Sign off with a crème brûlée with coconut shortbread biscuit and chilli sorbet possibly indulging in a glass of the Muscat St. Jean de Minervois Val d'Orbier with which to toast those heavenly voices from across the road.
