Dahlak

Named after the exotic archipelago located in the Red Sea, Dahlak is an Ethiopian restaurant in West Philadelphia that is known for its authentic cuisine and ethnic customs. Traditional round woven tables and low cushioned stools are to be found for seating whilst the décor is kept simple with African paraphernalia hung on walls creating a unique and enjoyable ambiance.

Appetizers such as shuro watt, seasoned chick peas in berbere sauce and sambussa, thin dough shells stuffed with lentils, green chilli and herbs fuel the appetite for zilzil tibs, strips of tender beef sautéed in butter, onions and spices and shrimp alicha, shrimp cooked in a mild sauce with onions and sour cream. These hearty main courses and their delicious lamb and chicken dishes are eaten with injera, a pancake like bread, on a huge plate that is shared by many.

A simple wine list and a variety of beers are on hand to accompany the meal, and finally unwind at the cool bar at the rear.
