Dalchini

147 Arthur Road, Wimbledon Park, London, SW19 8AB

Hakka literally means guests and a style of cuisine developed by Chinese settlers in India, merging Oriental styles of cooking with Indian ingredients. No one understands this better than Veronica Sarkhel, the proprietor of Dalchini, who is of Chinese origin but born and raised in India. The brightly lit dining area with pastel shaded walls offset the dark wood floors and furniture. Nibble on spicy prawn crackers or crispy lamb in Schezwan ginger sauce before moving on to a main course of soft aubergine folded with minced chicken breast and shrimp topped with fresh coriander. Seafood specialities include light batter fried squid tossed in garlic butter, carrots and spring onions, and filleted tilapia cooked home style with fermented black soy beans and sauce and loads of stem ginger seared with smoking hot oil.

REVIEWS OF Dalchini

Rebecca (16 April 2009)

My favourites include chow chu cauliflower, squid pepper salt, chilli garlic potatoes, kung pao chicken and moiyan aubergine. I go there with my family. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is fun.

Malc100 (15 January 2008)

It has great service and great food. The starters are great, especialy if there are a few of you, try as many as you can. By the time you reach the main course, you are probably full already, but keep going. The best option is probably to up the starters then go straight for the icecream or desserts, to cool you down. It is not too expensive and well worth a visit.
