Dang at Ben's Thai
The Robert Browning, 15 Clifton Road, London, W9 1SY
It is well worth seeking out this extremely reasonably priced Thai restaurant on the first floor above a pub, The Robert Browning, in Maida Vale. The open dining area is traditionally decorated, strangely though, not in Thai style as it could not look more ostentatiously English if it tried. Fans of the place are surprised at how little it costs for a party of people and that, if you drink the beer instead of wine, it amazingly always seems to come at little more than fifteen to twenty pounds a head. Some are less than enamoured of it, feeling that the Thai food has become rather anglicised and overrated, but they seem to be in the minority; though the odd strange description does serve to reinforce their view, like 'Pinky in Blanket' for deep fried prawns in rice pastry, but that is just the owner's sense of humour showing through. It is well worth seeking out this extremely reasonably priced Thai restaurant on the first floor above a pub, The Robert Browning, in Maida Vale. Most find that the quality tends to be surprisingly reliable, and that the majority of the dishes are actually remarkably authentic. Though it is off the beaten track, you should find that Ben's Thai is definitely a reason to undertake an urban safari to North London, especially for those on a budget.

REVIEWS OF Dang at Ben's Thai
Steven Boyle (19 December 2005)
Fantastic! What a fabulous little find. I almost wanted to keep it to myself. The food was amazing, the staff were very welcoming and the surroundings were very interesting. If you're looking for Thai food, this is a cracking little place!
Shafiq Mumani (24 February 2004)
I've eaten here lots of times and each time, I am surprised at how good it is. The surroundings look a bit basic but it is always buzzing and most of the time I've had to make reservations though often if you call a few hours ahead they will find a place for you.
The food is great and only wish you could purchase the beers that are also available at the wonderful bar below. Speaking of the bar, if you have to wait for a table, it's a great place on sunny days to sit out on the patio and they have the gas powered heat lamps to keep you warm in the evenings too. Ben's Thai is my favourite Thai restaurant in Maida Vale!
