De Luca Cucina & Bar Description
De Luca Cucina and Bar sits unobtrusively in the midst of several solicitors' offices on Regent Street, serving a blend of British and Italian fare. The subdued lighting of the cocktail bar creates a warm and relaxing atmosphere and an open theatre kitchen gives customers a chance to watch the chefs in action.
The skylight area at the rear is a cosy spot for a tête-à-tête over dinner. Their a la carte menu offers an appealing mix of dishes such as crispy squid with sweet chilli and rocket or baked aubergine with mozzarella and parmesan in rich tomato sauce and there is a separate list for lunch and brunch. The bar provides live entertainment ranging from jazz to soul every Saturday.

This restaurant has excellent Italian cuisine to offer, and a stylish interior to admire. As a previous reviewer has indicated, however, there is a tendency on the part of some staff members to lack the necessary customer facing skills, and perhaps a degree of complacency or pretentiousness has crept into this successful establishment. This flaw is not unusual for Cambridge restaurants, which do tend to rely on passing trade from tourists and students whose business can be taken for granted without maintaining the higher standards that prevail in less prosperous cities and towns. Hopefully De Luca will survive the current economic downturn, by improving its service levels and continuing to serve well prepared food.

On a trip to Cambridge in January we decided to eat there as we read some okay reviews of it. We were immediately struck by the overtly enthusiastic waitress, who greeted us, and then promptly signed-off for the evening. The atmosphere was not authentic and service wasn't particularly professional. The food was okay, I had veal and my wife had penne arrabiata. The tiramisu which was recommended was not very pleasant.
