Decks Restaurant

Decks is one of the more atmospheric of the many beautifully situated restaurants in the seductively temperate southwest of England, not altogether unreflected in the approach to matters of cuisine at this lively place. They operate two basic menus, the first centred round a course/choice system, the second a straightforward a la carte. Starter choices are from amongst the likes of their famed fresh lobster bisque, and salmon tempura, mains could include steamed fillets of black bream or pan-fried skate wing, with banana meringue or an iced passion fruit parfait.

The a la carte starters offers such delights as duck risotto, a crab and avocado tower or smoked haddock vichyssoise, with fillet of cod wrapped in bacon and baked with rosemary, tomato and garlic or grilled fillets of sea bass amongst the mains. An extensive wine list offers a breadth of choice not always available in a modern restaurant.

From either the upper or the lower deck the time to be there is the evening, with views over nearby Appledore and the balmy warmth of a marine climate as the perfect backcloth to drinks by the beach
