Diwana Bhel Poori House
121-123 Drummond Street, London, NW1 2HL
The somewhat grim seventies style décor, which looks like it has hardly changed since they opened in 1971, doesn't seem to deter anyone from going to this popular Indian restaurant. But who really worries about how a place looks when the food is a real winner on both flavour and value and Diwana Bhel Poori House does just that. When it comes to the menu the paper dosa or wafer thin rice pancake looks and tastes superb, while the hearty thali annapurna, a combination of rice, lentils, vegetable curry and various dishes, is a challenge as high as its name for any appetite. Chaat, that savoury snack relished by any street food lover in India, is something of a house speciality and the bhel poori version with puffed rice, potatoes and tangy tamarind sauce is hard to overlook. The somewhat grim seventies style décor, which looks like it has hardly changed since they opened in 1971, doesn't seem to deter anyone from going to this popular Indian restaurant. REVIEWS OF Diwana Bhel Poori House

Amazingly tasty and good value as well. I would recommend it to anyone. The staff are cooperative and the decor has hardly changed since the seventies! The dosas and lassis are superb. Go out of your way to dine there.
Wooz (23 December 2008)
It was a very poor experience. My family has been going to Diwana for over 30 years. I haven't been there for 4-5 years because of previous bad experiences but thought I would try again today. It was awful. The décor is bad and the tables and seats are cramped and uncomfortable. The toilets offer no privacy and not to mention the fact that they're broken and filthy. The food is totally bland and no longer particularly inexpensive, but the worst thing about Diwana is the service, or lack of it. People swipe at your plates to get you out of the restaurant as quickly as possible. The waiter even said to me as I was hunting for my credit card ‘can you hurry up, I have a queue of people outside’. It’s rude and insulting. I will never go again.
