Don Restaurant, The

The Don is the sister restaurant to Bleeding Heart, and is similarly hidden away in a small courtyard, this time off St Swithin's Lane in the City. It's quite a find as it's easily missed due to its location but once discovered you'll soon wish to return. The restaurant is divided into two distinct areas, the modern ground floor and the cosy brick vaulted basement area, that acts as a cheaper bistro and used to be the Sandeman port cellar - hence the name, after the caped crusader of Sandeman fame - before it was turned into a dining area. The restaurant menu lists delicacies such as pressed terrine of duck confit followed by grilled calf's liver with bacon lardoons and roast baby onions, or pork fillet stuffed with Parma ham, garlic butter and fondant potato. Expect to find a vibrant crowd of slick city workers surrounding you.
