Dragon Castle
100 Walworth Road, Elephant & Castle, London, SE17 1JL
Happily the Elephant and Castle is in the process of being regenerated from its appallingly run down state, and Dragon Castle is amongst the early completions. It is truly vast, only five minutes from the tube, making it one of the most likely Cantonese restaurants in the area. Early reviews speak very highly of the whole operation, with excellent food, fresh ingredients and a menu that does not take too many tilts at adventure but concentrates on delivering sound, well-prepared and understood dishes to a highly appreciative clientele. Starters of eel strips stir-fried with chilli, set the tone, and a whole series of Chef's specials are of the same high standard and imaginative nature.Happily the Elephant and Castle is in the process of being regenerated from its appallingly run down state, and Dragon Castle is amongst the early completions. Starters of eel strips stir-fried with chilli, set the tone, and a whole series of Chef's specials are of the same high standard and imaginative nature. Day time dim sum is remarkable with shark fin dumpling surrounded by rich, golden stock, flaky roast pork pastries, and knots of taro noodle that have been heavily spiced with ginger and chilli.
Try not to miss one of the most spectacular dishes; a whole crab braised in beer and cellophane noodles. The staff have the reputation of being courteous and efficient, not always a prerequisite of restaurants drawn from this cuisine, but in keeping with the high standards at this very good restaurant.
