Drovers Arms, The Description

The Drovers Arms stands impressively on the main A50 in Allostock Village. Outside there's an extensive beer garden, a patio area and a fully-maintained bowling green; step inside to find the kitchen aspiring to give diners a lovely traditional dining experience. The pensioner's hot buffet is served at lunchtime from Tuesday to Thursday and a popular lunch carvery operates on Sunday.

The focus is on fresh local produce, so expect starters of Cajun chicken dippers with light curry mayonnaise, and homemade pate with buttered toast. Mains can run from steak and ale pie and minted lamb shank on a bed of cream potatoes to the slightly more exotic sizzling skillets of garlic chicken, or ribbon of rump and duck sizzler, wok-fried in hoi sin sauce and Oriental style vegetables. Sandwiches, baguettes and jacket potatoes are perfect for a light snack.

The Drovers conservatory can hold up to forty people for small functions and the bowling green can be hired for an all day outing with morning refreshments, sandwiches, and homemade chips for lunch and a carvery meal at night.

Your Reviews of Drovers Arms, The

Claire Mann (11 October 2009)

I had a wonderful meal there and felt spoilt for choice with the menu, which is rare for a veggie. It has a lovely atmosphere, open fire, lots of finishing touches and the food was to die for! The landlord and landlady were really friendly and helpful. All in all it is a fabulous place to visit for a meal. I would recommend this place to everyone and will be going back very soon.

Zoe Mann (11 October 2009)

Wow what a fantastic place! We were looking for something different, and happened to find The Drovers Arms, near Knutsford. It was magical and I half thought it might disappear after we left, it had a roaring log fire, convivial hosts, fairy-lit decor and food to die for! The bread and butter pudding made by the landlady is too delicious to describe! Can't wait to go again- and if you're vegetarian, there's a fantastic choice. 11 out of 10 from me!

The unusual name of 'The Frozen Mop' is reputed to come from a local legend involving a cleaner and a cold winter's night, but apparently there are several versions of the story and the real attribution ...
