Due South
139 Kings Road Arches, Brighton Beach, Brighton, BN1 2FN
Due South is a peaceful, traditional restaurant popular for its British cuisine and has received the prestigious AA Rosette. Head chef Michael Bremner passionately creates sophisticated food using seafood that is wild, organic and free range produce. The menu changes every month and therefore is out of the ordinary and an experience you wouldn't want to miss. Try Jerusalem artichoke soup, served with truffles and stuffed pancake with local wild mushroom salad and poached egg for starters. For main course you may prefer to order whole grilled catch of the day served with caper butter and new potatoes, or golden cross goats cheese and truffle soufflé, with beetroot, hazelnuts and purple sprouting broccoli, with braised red cabbage and hand cut chips.Due South is a peaceful, traditional restaurant popular for its British cuisine and has received the prestigious AA Rosette. REVIEWS OF Due South
Jennie B (27 June 2008)
I went to Due South for the first time long back and had a really wonderful time. The focus is still on local food but they have really stepped things up. They serve lots of lovely, organic food but with a whole new level of sophistication and flair. Judging from our meal there the other night, they are still miles ahead of the competition in terms of food. The members of staff were lovely, the food was amazing and, although not cheap, its value for money.
Louise Brooks (26 June 2008)
This month I revisited Due South because it was my birthday and a special occasion. I went with two friends who had not been there before. I went two years ago and had the best food and service, and I loved the location and was hoping to relive this experience. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed because at some point in the last two years there must have been a change in management or chef. The food was 'nouveau cuisine', the minutest portions, which is not acceptable when it was £40 a head. I paid extra for the seafood platter but I have never seen so little food presented on a piece of slate, tiny pieces in each corner were cut up so that they were unrecognisable. My main course was sea bass and this was also extremely small. My friends had the steak, which was not cooked to their specified requirements. As it was my birthday we did not complain that night but I wish in retrospect we had because it ruined our evening.
Previously, I had been recommending this restaurant as one of the best in Brighton and I had thought it was primarily a seafood restaurant but there was not much seafood on the menu this time, instead there were things like pigeon, which I don’t find appealing. The service was okay and they did make a bit of an effort with the sweet but all in all, I am left feeling that I will not go back again and wish I had chosen somewhere else that night.
