Dungeon Restaurant

Dalhousie must be one of the best-promoted castles in Scotland. A 13th century fortress it has been skilfully converted into a place of hedonistic comfort, of which the food is by no means least. There is a good blend of old and new with a pronounced Gallic influence. Eating is done in the Dungeon Restaurant, nothing like as bad as it sounds, which has a Table d'Hote price of £32, and the rather cheaper and lighter Orangery Restaurant.

Whilst the promotional activity makes for a good deal of coming and going everything seems to be under close control and the quality and service of the food is commendable. House wine is £15.50, an indication of the level of prices in general. The extensive grounds and estate make for pleasant walking in order to ensure that you are trim for the next encounter in the Dungeon. No wonder this is a favourite haunt for those wishing to escape from the stresses of what passes nowadays for everyday life.
