Eagle & Child, The Description

If you are fairly local to Bispham Green, then consider yourself to be very fortunate in having The Eagle & Child on your front doorstep. You will sup well and enjoy some excellent cask conditioned ales as well as an extremely enterprising wine list. With the kitchen in the capable hands of Neil McKevitt, formerly of Ziba in Liverpool, the cooking tends to be relatively simple but tempting, reasonably priced and of a very decent quality. Experience dishes such as tomato and goat's cheese tart; loin of lamb; toasted cheese and red pepper panini or battered cod with mushy peas to the fore, finishing up with sticky toffee pudding.

It is simply one of the best pubs around. It’s a beautiful pub with flag floors, hops hanging and a wealth of interesting things. The food is outstanding and ever changing both printed and handwritten on the blackboards. The log fires and antique furniture make for a very cosy and welcoming feel. Martin Ainscough is a genius when it comes to creating a prefect atmosphere. His portfolio of interesting pubs and hideaways are the quintessential escapism. With a fantastic farm shop and butcher tagged on, this is the perfect destination. Great produce, nice pint and a fabulous meal, all rolled into one.

Lynne Prince (1 July 2009)

This is a gorgeous little pub which is deceptive in its size as it’s bigger on the inside with more tables than we expected. The very friendly staff serve cask ales, which regularly change and give the opportunity to try local and unusual beers. The food is outstanding, we have eaten there several times and it has never disappointed us. The fish smokies are the pub's signature starter or light lunch dish and is a tasty treat of flaked smoked fish in a light sauce, the intensity of the flavour cannot be overstated, it's quite special but I recommend sharing it as a starter as the main courses are substantial. Main courses range from locally reared beef or lamb, corn-fed chicken with lively sauces and perfectly cooked vegetables. The homemade burger and hand made chips are amazing, a real treat of the highest quality. I have never had a dessert, I never have the room. Great place, lovely atmosphere and well worth the drive.
