Eagle & Child, The

This is a gorgeous little pub which is deceptive in its size as it’s bigger on the inside with more tables than we expected. The very friendly staff serve cask ales, which regularly change and give the opportunity to try local and unusual beers. The food is outstanding, we have eaten there several times and it has never disappointed us. The fish smokies are the pub's signature starter or light lunch dish and is a tasty treat of flaked smoked fish in a light sauce, the intensity of the flavour cannot be overstated, it's quite special but I recommend sharing it as a starter as the main courses are substantial. Main courses range from locally reared beef or lamb, corn-fed chicken with lively sauces and perfectly cooked vegetables. The homemade burger and hand made chips are amazing, a real treat of the highest quality. I have never had a dessert, I never have the room. Great place, lovely atmosphere and well worth the drive.

Just thought I would write a more recent review for the fine food and drink available at the ‘Eagle’. The food is great; from my seven year old grand daughter to my father-in-law of 84 we all love it. The service is superb and the wine and beer are spot on, especially Southport Brewery beers. Well done David & Co. What a team.
