Egan's Description
Just the sort of place that somewhere like Lymington and its long association with the salty fraternity should have. Bistro in style it is well placed to serve the yachties and everything is angled towards their inclinations, including the passion for seafood, of which there is an abundance only too handy. Game also features strongly in season. Typical dishes are a halibut starter with a crab samosa, shellfish bisque and chocolate tart with Cointreau ice cream. Helpings are generous and prices reasonable with a two course set lunch offering great value from £8.95. An extensively travelled wine list favours robust drinking for less than £20 a bottle, and four house wines at £11.95. For people who regard spending money on anything other than their boats as a distinct lack of control, Egan's is the answer - style and value at a fair price.
Fixed Lunch

Helen (20 January 2010)
My husband and I went to Lymington for two nights on our way back to London from Dorset. We stayed at Britannia House, which is a great bed and breakfast place and was recommended Egan's. However, given that it was a Friday night, the owner of our bed and breakfast place – Tobias, was skeptical that we would be able to get a table. He was right, the only available time was at 9.30pm, so we decided to have a late lunch and go for the late sitting. It was worthwhile, the food and the hospitality were simply amazing. I had a monkfish and lobster thermidor that was cooked to perfection. It was hard to resist having their bread too, as they were so delicious. Our meal for two - starter, main and a glass of wine each cost us around £60 including service. We loved the restaurant so much that we wanted to go back there the next day. However, it was the same situation. They were fully booked apart from a late sitting. We didn't mind and were willing to wait. Dinner the next day was again excellent. I would have really loved to try their dessert though, but neither of us could fit more food in our stomachs. For the bed and breakfast place and the restaurant alone my husband and I would be going back to Lymington again.

I visited Egan's five times now, my partner and I have been there twice and returned late January for his birthday. The food was absolutely divine, service was first class, the staff were incredibly helpful and the place was very relaxing. We recommend the goat's cheese, best we tasted, the venison is equally tasty and desserts to die for. The whole evening there is an experience. We cannot wait to return.
