El Faro

This addition to the picturesque waterside location of Turnberry Quay, off Pepper Street in London's Docklands has commanding views over Crossharbour Dock, yet is only ten minutes from Canary Wharf. Truly it is a piece of Spain transported into one of the most strategic waterside positions that London can offer, and perhaps it is no coincidence that el Faro translates as 'lighthouse'.

The menu uses ingredients that lay good claim to integrity and accurate sourcing. Fish from nearby Billingsgate, regular deliveries from Spain including Hoijo Blanco olive oil and Spanish Estrella Damm beer, ensure that authentic flavours prevail.

The result of this attention to detail is that whilst the more frequently seen dishes are in evidence, those that are less well known can also be discovered and enjoyed to the full. Asturian homemade chorizo sausage cooked in cider and served with rocket and a Modena vinegar reduction, oven roasted suckling pig from Segovia served with trinxat, saffron chickpeas and quince jelly, the old Spanish classic paella, rice cooked with prawns, squid, mussels and vegetables, all combine to offer a menu that has depth and character, and that's before you reach the warm sautéed wild berries served with a reduction of sweet balsamic vinegar, black pepper and Madagascan vanilla ice cream.

An extensive array of beers, cocktails and juices precede a wine list that smacks of home, proving once again that when Spanish wines are more closely explored there are some real stunners to be found.
