If you are visiting the theatre in Brighton and are in the mood for Mexican food, El Mexicano is a good place to be in. Established in 1999, this restaurant is virtually in the heart of Brighton's theatreland and overlooks the Pavilion Gardens. With their range of enchiladas, mole, sea-food paellas, fajitas and tapas, El Mexicano pride themselves on their authentic Mexican food and is a popular pre and post theatre destination .The music, ambience, food and even the cocktails are all vibrantly Latino and another attraction is Valentino, their art deco style bar, which remains open up to 2 am. Another option is their coctel de camaron or Mexican style prawn cocktail.
Chicken enchiladas, tortillas filled with shredded chicken, topped with red sauce, cheese and sour cream or the ever popular quesadillas, warmed flour tortillas folded and filled with mixed cheese and mushrooms topped with sour cream are good options. If you like seafood, try the tacos de Cameron which is stir fried prawns and tuna served in soft flour tacos. A richer option is tacos al pastor, or diced pork in a slightly spicy achiote marinade, served with pineapple pieces, coriander, rice, refried beans and flour or corn tortillas.
Vegetarians can enjoy the enchipotalada, a vegetarian enchilada with spicy chipotle salsa or their tostadas which are layered corn tortillas with avocado, mixed peppers refried beans, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes.
For dessert you can take your pick from the delicious homemade Mexican crème caramel flan, their helado, ice-cream, in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry or banana flavours or settle for the light cheesecakes.
