El Vaquero Description

Have you ever had a professional meat carver called a passador walk up to your table and delicately carve a slice of perfectly cooked meat from a skewer onto your plate? If you like your meat well done, he will take it from the outside of the skewer or from the inside, if you want to have it rare. This is a unique experience not just for the eyes but the taste buds as well.

El Vaquero, a South American restaurant overlooking the lush Totteridge Valley offers diners this distinct experience. Simplicity is a consistent theme there, from the décor of stripped wood that gives it an uncomplicated, rustic feel, to the food, which too is straightforward - mostly barbecues and grills.

The meat is directly imported from Brazil and Argentina and is cooked with care to ensure it is succulent and retains its flavour. Diners can choose from a la carte and buffet menus with different versions for the day and the evening. Some of their signature dishes are leg of lamb, heart of rump, chicken thighs and wings and an array of salads. You could also find a choice of Brazilian hot dishes, freshly made using time honoured recipes.

The name El Vaquero is derived from the Spanish word for cowboy and it is fitting to visit the place after a hard days' work or during the weekend - take in the tranquil surroundings and with a little support from the passadors, enjoy a hearty and satisfying meal.

Your Reviews of El Vaquero

Nora (6 November 2008)

They have a fabulous selection, but you have to be really hungry to take advantage of all on offer. We did comment on the meat being too salty. Our only gripe was that our daughter who is four years old ate very little, but we were still charged £12, which I felt was excessive. So I wouldn't recommend taking children unless they are big eaters.
