El Vino Description
We have moved on a long way since the days of El Vino, the traditional Fleet Street public house inhabited by Lunchtime O'Booze and his cronies. This particular El Vino is handy for the oval ball grabbers, and offers an inspired mix of hot, cold and speciality tapas amidst an array of Mediterranean artefacts.
Prices are as attractive as the tapas themselves, with Basque seafood casserole, aubergine paste and cured Iberian Jabugo ham, and a set menu of 10 speciality tapas for a very credible £20. El Vino is cheap and cheerful in the best sense and the Spanish wine comes in very handy when England is having an off day.

Unfortunately it’s is a bad review. Four of us ate there and it was not a good experience. As soon as we arrived there was confusion over the booking. We then had to wait a very long time before even getting the menu. The two waitresses who served us were very unfriendly and uncommunicative. The food was, however, excellent - but it all came out at long intervals. Two of us were having vegetarian food, the other two - meat. The vegetarian food came out way before the meat, so they were left with nothing while we ate. One of the dishes failed to appear at all and we had to ask for it. When we asked the waitress what was happening, all she could say was that they had only two chefs at work. There was no apology. A very poor experience - we would not be returning.

This is a great tapas restaurant although not like your ordinary tapas - far more exquisite! The menu is extensive but not expensive - each tapa is about £3.50 to £4 and between 2 of us, we had 7 dishes. With bread and olives to start, a shared dessert, a bottle of wine and a bottle of beer, the bill only came to about £55.
The menu contains such delights as pigeon pie, rabbit with chorizo, oxtail, squid ink risotto - the list goes on. The staff are excellent, very friendly and attentive without being intrusive.
I have now been twice, the second occasion being with a group of 7 where the bill was still only £30 a head and the food and service were just as excellent as my first visit. Highly recommended!
