Elizabethan Inn
Fore Street, Luton, nr Newton Abbot, TQ13 0BL
The Elizabethan Inn, which is a freehouse, is a thoroughly traditional country pub, and all the better for that. Family owned and operated by the proprietors, Chef Nick Powell, and Anne Gibbs, who takes care of the bar, it offers a warm and friendly atmosphere. The pub is locally renowned for good honest Devon food. What sets Elizabethan apart is the fact that the vast array of produce is mainly grown or reared in the village of Luton, including vegetables, lamb, duck, trout, cider and even their Quail. Nick, a very enterprising sort of guy makes all the sausages, which are available for purchase, along with curing his own bacon. A mixed menu of traditional and modern dishes ranging from ham, egg and chips to pot roasted duck can be taken in the lovely garden. The Elizabethan Inn, which is a freehouse, is a thoroughly traditional country pub, and all the better for that. A beer festival is held twice a year with a three course special menu to accompany it. Real ales are well kept - they are Cask Marque accredited - with national beers and locals, while a well balanced wine list provides good value.
