Emchai Restaurant

78 High Street, Barnet, EN5 5SN

The façade and interior of this spacious neighbourhood restaurant is quite discreet but that doesn't prepare you for the delicious Malaysian cuisine on offer there. Sit back and watch the chefs in action behind the counters and before too long there will be plates of beef rendang, slowly cooked in coconut milk and spices, or chicken satay coming your way. Traditional favourites of aromatic crispy duck and sweet and sour chicken are not forgotten but the menu's occasional detour into Chinese territory is also evident. For a touch of innovation there is sea bass with champagne sauce or the light crunchy broccoli in ginger sauce. Spice it up a bit with char kway teow, fried flat noodles with prawns and chicken, or nasi goring, fried rice spiced with tamarind, chilli, egg and prawns.

REVIEWS OF Emchai Restaurant

Dervish (10 January 2012)

Highly recommended, food is delicious and the service is always prompt and friendly even at their busiest. Beef rendang is a particular favourite along with salt and spicy prawns / squid. All the food is prepared to the highest standard thus why they are busy when others are not.

Pearl (24 October 2008)

The food was simply delicious. I particularly recommend the prawns with lily bulb. This is the only restaurant in Barnet that serves consistently nice food, even at their busiest.
