EngineHouse Cafe, The

2 Foundry Square, Leeds, LS11 5DL

Housed in an impressive Grade II listed building, The EngineHouse Cafe is a small, friendly and independently owned business in Leeds's Round Foundry development. Exposed brickwork featuring a brick vaulted ceiling and dark wood furniture lend the interior an uncomplicated feel. The cooking is full-bodied and robust, so you really should try their house speciality of 21 day aged grilled rib-eye steak with chunky chips, wilted spinach and Béarnaise sauce. The menu is a decidedly British affair with dishes such as goats' cheese baked in filo with red onion marmalade; seared king scallops with avocado puree, slow roast tomatoes and lemon dressing, or pan fried sea bream with sweet and sour peppers and balsamic dressing.

REVIEWS OF EngineHouse Cafe, The

Rickoshea (21 October 2008)

On a cold Saturday night after a long day shopping, the Engine House is a sight for sore eyes. With welcoming staff and a tasteful décor, it was a little gem. The scallops with black pudding were cooked to perfection, and my partner’s goat’s cheese looked heavenly. My main course, which was beautifully cooked sea bass with leek carbonara, hit all the right spots, while my partner declared that the chicken on a pearl barley broth was moist and deliciously well cooked. After a short break we decided to sample some of the home made desserts. The vanilla brûlée was creamy and was a light end to a meal, and the chocolate brownie certainly made for an indulgent end. For less than £50.00 for three courses each with drinks and a tip, we will definitely return. I just hope that more people will visit this wonderful restaurant-cafe as it truly is an exceptional place with friendly staff at the entrance, and an obviously talented chef. This is truly a place to be proud of.
