Narrow cobbled streets, lovely gardens and theatres, that draw people from far away, welcome you to Odense, one of Denmark's oldest and most vibrant cities. It is famous for the fact that author and poet Hans Christian Andersen, acclaimed for having brought so much joy to children across Europe with wonderful fairy tales such as Thumbelina, The Ugly Duckling and The Little Mermaid, was born there.
The whole place buzzes with shops, museums and of course, intimate cafés and restaurants that offer popular Danish, Italian, French, Indian and other fare from around the world. Odense has made great strides in meeting the demand for quality eating out, and an excellent example is Greek tavern Milos, somewhere that certainly doesn't disappoint customers when it comes to excellence and variety in cuisine.
The restaurant is a treat for those who believe that there's no better way to relax than to enjoy good company, great food and drink, and Milos's casual and pleasant atmosphere encourages you to do just that. An appealing Scandinavian touch to most things Greek draws many people to the refuge that promises 'a sensual experience out of the ordinary'!
Who could fail to be tempted by first courses such as crisp fried onions, shrimp and feta cheese with white wine; fresh vine leaves stuffed with rice, red onions, lemon juice and parsley; juicy keftedes or meatballs, and Greek sausages in tomato sauce, all served with grilled bread and butter?
That could be followed by one of Milos's specialities of kotopoulo gemisto, marinated grilled chicken breast with feta and basil, wrapped in bacon and served with potatoes and fresh vegetables; an interesting dish of grilled prawns on a stick with spicy pepper and lime sauce or oven baked swordfish.
Lunch could start with their Mediterranean tapas platter with chicken, spinach pie, stuffed vegetables or dolmades, tzatziki and feta before progressing to their tasty Greek burgers, called bifteki, or the mouth-watering sandwiches that are all satisfyingly filling. Those that prefer healthier choices can go for the polotiki mixed salad, with tomato, Kalamata olives, cucumber, red onions and feta.
They offer wines from Greece as well as spirits, aperitifs and coffee. Since Milos is a Greek restaurant, the baklava with nuts and honey is the pride of their dessert menu. Other choices include jaurti of yoghurt coated with honey and fruit or flambéed figs served with ice. If you did not know, Odense is known as Denmark's best cycle town and you can ride through most of Greater Odense without meeting a single car and burn off all those extra calories.
