Sterne Foifi (Zurich)

According to a recent Zurich newspaper survey the Sterne Foifi, and its sister restaurant Vordere Sterne provide the best Bratwurst -veal sausage- in town. Our recent experience supports this. We went for the Bratwurst and Rosti and were not disappointed. Other dishes looked equally appetising as they were delivered to neighbouring tables, especially the venison, which is in season at the moment. There's an extensive wine list, and a good selection of open wines served by the glass. The service was friendly and prompt, and the ambience relaxed. It was altogether a good evening out with a couple of friends. I'm planning to go again soon.

Lua (Majorca)

We visited this restaurant in September while staying in Soller upon the recommendation of the owner of the casita where we were staying. A great recommendation it was too - the John Dory in particular lived up to the hype, delicious. The seafood pancake starter was out of this world. We got there early and managed to get one of the outside tables, which gave us a wonderful view of the marina. Not the cheapest restaurant in Port de Soller but certainly worth it for a special evening.

Raphael Restaurant (Brussels / Bruxelles)

Raphael is a gem of a place. The inside is an eccentric mix of styles- traditional in a bonkers type way but very cosy. However, all restaurants should be judged by the food, and Raphael delivers. In my opinion, as good as some of the vastly overpriced, better known places on the Grand Place and a million times better than the countless seafood ones behind the Grand Place. The lamb in rosemary gravy was amazing. We visit every time we are in Brussels and recommend it unreservedly. And you won't melt your credit card either.

Rydbergs Bar & Matsal (Norrmalm/City)

I'm Lebanese and have visited Rydbergs restaurant in Stockholm in August. To tell you the truth, it is so classy, the food is great and delicious and they are excellent in serving their guests. The atmosphere is so relaxing; I had lunch and dinner there for two days. Fantastic, keep it up.

Restaurante Jardín (Majorca)

We had dinner on a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was sparsely populated on that day. We didn't have time for the large seven or ten course tasting menu, we had hired a babysitter for our two kids, but the waiter offered us to select five courses from the a la carte as a smaller tasting menu. The food was excellent, with many local ingredients - fresh fish and prawns from the Alcudia bay and excellent olive oil from just a few miles away. The wine list was exceptional. We had a 2003 Flor De Pingus at 89 Euro, which is just slightly above street price. Service was also very good but the only let down was as only three tables were taken, you could easily feel uncomfortable raising your voice just a bit. To come to an end: for those who are willing to pay 200 Euros for a dinner for two with wine, it is a great place.

El Armario (Madrid)

I visited this restaurant on Monday with friends to celebrate a birthday. The food and service were excellent, so much so that we ate there again the following night, which was our last in Madrid. Had we not been going home the following day, we would certainly have eaten there again; I cannot praise the restaurant any higher.

Restaurang Café Västbacken (Tanumshede)

A rustic room complete with fishing and boating designs gives a perfect welcome to this unique little place that you don’t just happen to pass by since the roads end here and the seashore takes over. This gives you a chance to swim before dinner. You could eat everything from the menu and you won’t regret it or the budget-conscious could settle for the seafood casserole. Don’t miss out on desserts, especially the 'bubbly sorbet'. There is a large selection of drinks for the non drivers. The members of staff are friendly and young and if you’re in the area, you’re in for a great meal.

Citrus Etoile (Paris)

After years as a restaurateur at L'Orangerie in Los Angeles where numerous celebrities engaged his services for private events, chef Giles Epié returned to France and opened this restaurant. Moving from light and fresh novelties like salmon marinated herring style to decadent confections like foie gras-stuffed beignets topped in a syrupy-sweet port wine reduction to classic French staples like rabbit with mustard sauce, Mr. Epié is a true culinary contortionist.
