Farm, The

One of London's latest contributions to the gastropub boom, the Farm is located right in the middle of Fulham's Broadway strip, well suited to catch the big spenders that roam there, well underlined by their policy of no-cash-thank-you, just flip the plastic. I suppose those of us who grumble about no-card policies have only ourselves to blame.

First the décor, a delightful blend of sophistication with warmth and conviction, muted red walls, candles and bare floors and furniture. What's on offer? The answer is a touch confusing, and as mixed as the reviews emerging. With a Michelin chef on Fulham Broadway though, something has to be right and there's a lot that is. For confirmation try the roasted halibut on a clam, bacon and cabbage stew, or the warm chocolate fondant with peanut-butter ice cream. The steak sandwiches are some of the best this side of Argentina.

The wine list is well up to the mark and the prices will not leave you gasping for oxygen. Service seems to vary between absolutely spot-on to confrontational. To summarise there is evidence here of all the qualities needed to make a first class restaurant, not a gastropub, after some fine-tuning which given the pedigree of the owner seems highly likely to happen.
