Farthings

54 High Street, Cowbridge, CF71 7AH

The family-run Farthings is well established in the market town of Cowbridge, and situated in a building that dates back to 1720. The courtyard garden could be just the place to spend summer afternoons, while in the winter log fires keep customers warm. The restaurant and wine bar is popular among people of all ages; two reasons for this could be the informal atmosphere and the tasty yet simple food. The ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible and the menu offers a range of traditional, modern and signature dishes. The special Farthings dessert counter is filled with sumptuous delights that tempt people to come back for more. Start your day with the Farthings breakfast or pop in at lunchtime when pan-fried scallops with crispy Parma ham appear alongside asta, jacket potatoes, and local pork sausages with creamy mash.

REVIEWS OF Farthings

Rachel (30 April 2009)

I recently joined friends for dinner in Farthings to sample their new classics menu. I hadn't been there for a few months and was extremely happy with all aspects of the evening. The food was simple, but very tasty and nicely presented, often on these deals just throw the food on the plate. However, the best aspect of the meal was the level of friendly and attentive service. The manager explained to us that they now do table service in the evenings as it is a little less hectic than during the lunchtime rush. This was a pleasant surprise for us as we could catch up while being waited upon. My only gripe would be that one of the party wanted to exchange a starter for a dessert on the fixed menu but was unable to do so. Overall though, top marks Farthings, you seem to have raised your game considerably over the last few months.

We had the pleasure of visiting Farthings yesterday on New Years' day for a champagne brunch. We were visiting Cowbridge for the first time and were delighted to find such a hidden gem! There is a real traditional feel to the place with log fires and friendly, efficient staff. The food was simple, but home-cooked and delicious, and the chilled champagne was a perfect welcome to the New Year! We will definitely be back later on in the year to sample the traditional afternoon cream teas, and their delightful courtyard garden.
