Fat Cat Cafe Bar - Cardiff, The Description
The first Fat Cat Café Bar opened in Bangor, North Wales in 1992 and since then the group has been steadily expanding to meet the demands of the increasingly discerning customer. The chain runs ten café bars in London, the Midlands, Wales and the North West, and is known to maintain high standards in food and service.
In order to remain at the forefront of café bar culture, a number of their sites have been refurbished during the past year. All outlets offer just the right environment to relax - with comfortable leather sofas and private booths. Large projection screens show live sporting events and wi-fi is available free of charge.
Food is served all day, seven days a week and menus change monthly with each outlet playing host to events like the jazz club, ladies night and gourmet night during the week. Music policy depends on the time of day, ranging from classic instrumental to uplifting jazz and blues.
The breakfast menu offers, among other choices, the typical English Fat Cat breakfast. The all day menu is extensive and has choices that it is best known for - sandwiches include hot roast pork and apple, made of steak cooked with fresh herbs and served in a foccacia roll with applesauce.
Amongst the starters, expect to find smoked chicken, watercress and ricotta salad, garlic tiger prawns and buffalo mozzarella and beef tomato salad. If you like to keep it simple, the rustic chilli with beef chunks and rice braised in spices with kidney beans, is a good option - you could also add a bowl of nachos to it. Specials could offer beer battered fish and chips, and favourites like bangers and mash, grilled sea bass or stuffed peppers baked with cheese and olive oil.
There are popular desserts like sticky toffee pudding and rhubarb-apple crumble for those wanting to give their meal a sweet end.
A large selection of wines, spirits, bottled products, cocktails and cask conditioned ales makes up their wine menu. This list also mentions liqueur coffees and non-alcoholic beverages.
Your Reviews of Fat Cat Cafe Bar - Cardiff, The
Margaret (20 March 2008)
A group of about fifteen work colleagues visited the Cafe Bar for a team meal. The Fat Cat staff were friendly and helpful. I'd ordered the hot pork and apple sandwich, which was apparently the winner of the Sandwich Competition by the chef at Leicester. I'm afraid I dont think my sandwich was quite what he had in mind. It was almost cold when it arrived and the pork was dry and hard to chew, as was the round of stuffing in the roll. I didn't want to mention it at the time, so as not to spoil our lunch out.
Maybe mine was kept too long, so all the meals could be served together? But most of us seemed to enjoy the food, although a few people missed out on the profiteroles dessert, as they had run out. I think we would go there again though.
