Fat Fowl

Silver Street, Bradford on Avon, BA15 1JX

Fat Fowl occupies the original site of Bradford on Avon's post office and delights customers with its interior of muted colours, wooden furniture and an abundance of fresh flowers in the restaurant and conservatory. The Parisian terrace allows for guests to enjoy al fresco dining during the summer months and when the colder nights draw in the staff are happy to supply rugs to keep the chill at bay. Pop in for a cup of morning coffee or a pleasing meal of rustic and provincial dishes where you could find potted brown shrimps or a pig cheek potato cake with creamed onions to start off, and red legged partridge with puy lentils, or bourride of grey mullet, confit fennel, saffron potatoes and aioli as mains from a weekly changing menu.

A rustic tapas bar called The Roost complements the restaurant. Visit them when you have time and linger over tasty snacks, good wine, conversation and live jazz. Expect to find chicken peri peri, oriental beef, saffron risotto and shellfish, a charcuterie selection and homemade breads.

REVIEWS OF Fat Fowl

Pajcad (11 August 2010)

We use the Fat Fowl on a regular basis and love not only the food but the atmosphere and the lovely staff. A choice of two menus, ala carte or the tapas - both are equally good. The desserts are an absolute delight; they look beautiful on the plate and just as good on the pallet! The staff are so friendly and efficient - a real treat and just on our door step!

Bradford eater (4 January 2009)

The one thing preventing the Fat Fowl from being an outstanding local restaurant rather than just a very decent one is the service. Visiting there on New Year's Eve when it was full, but not busy enough to be over-stretched, we couldn't fault the four courses of carefully put together, delicious tapas dishes. The owner talked knowledgeably and enthusiastically about the food, but the waiting members of staff were under-prepared and inattentive.

We had to hang our own coats up, request the wine menu, ask again for water, and stop someone to ask for coffee. Another table got so tired of waiting that they went behind the bar themselves to find sugar for their coffee. It was not bad enough to spoil the experience totally, but a real shame as this should be so easy to get right with just a little bit of briefing and direction.
