Your Reviews of Fez

Steffen (14 September 2004)

We celebrated a friend's birthday party in September 2004 with one of the party specials:

FEZ ECO

STARTER: Zaalouk, Michauia, Salade marocaine, Briouate fromage, Kefta, Poulet.| MAIN: Couscous poulet merguez. Tagine de poulet aux citrons.| DESSERT: Patisseries maghrebines | Thé ou café

This normally costs £22 per head, but this was reduced to 18 as they were for some reason unable to include the normal half-bottle of wine per person.

The food was good, but charging £18 per head, drinks NOT included, (we were 16 people so that makes £288 on the food alone) is a bit rich, to put it mildly, when:

1. They served the starter and main course at the same time, and..

2. This amounted to one salad plate worth of food per person. They never even bothered to bring the entree plates!! They served several tasty dishes: lamb, chicken, sausages, couscous, houmous, among others, which we were in theory expected to share among us, but how they imagined 16 people were going to share of 4 chicken breasts and 2 drumsticks without a miracle is beyond me!!

We brought the shortcomings to the attention of the manager, but he unfortunately offered no compensation or any evidence that he would follow up our complaint, beyond a shrug and a "I'll talk to someone higher up the organisation". We have needless to say not heard anything.

Despite the bad experience we chose to remain at the venue because of the club downstairs. Here however we were refused cocktails advertised in the bar on the grounds that they "didn't have time to make them".

The wine list had lots of exciting Moroccan wines, but sadly I don't think I will go there again.
