Fig Restaurant
169 Hemingford Road, Barnsbury, London, N1 1DA
Formerly a grocer's shop the premises have scrubbed up well, now replaced by a very chic and attractive Fig Restaurant whose owners aim to make it the best neighbourhood food and wine experience of its kind in London. Many, who enjoy regularly the dishes prepared by Head Chef Christoffer Hruskova would take a view that they are well on the way. This is probably due as much as anything to Christoffer's extended contacts with gourmet restaurants throughout the world. A meal at Fig could start with free range hen egg and salted fish seaweed salad, or veal sweetbread with bread salad and Jerusalem artichokes. Main course of Dorset plaice and wild mushrooms comes with blackcurrants, sweet corn and English black truffle, and puddings can include beet root and fromage Blanc with steamed sago porridge.Formerly a grocer's shop the premises have scrubbed up well, now replaced by a very chic and attractive Fig Restaurant whose owners aim to make it the best neighbourhood food and wine experience of its kind in London.

Fig's wine list of over 60 bins is a good effort for a restaurant where small is beautiful, and their policy is to reflect rather than contrast the inputs from the various countries.

REVIEWS OF Fig Restaurant
Dawn (11 July 2007)
I strongly disagree with Jon's review. The owner is far from being pretentious and is one of the only restaurant owner's that I have come across in London who remembered my first name when I phoned to make a second booking. I have dined there three times and have had both great service and delicious food on all three occasions. If the service is slightly slow it is because their kitchen is incredibly tiny, which was explained to me when I made my reservation. I think this restaurant is a real gem in comparison to all of the larger less intimate places along Upper Street and I would strongly recommend it to anyone. It's not the sort of place you would want to go for traditional English food but if you appreciate a menu with some creativity then give it a try.
Jon Holt (23 June 2007)
It was a fantastic restaurant when the 'girls' were in charge but sadly it has taken over by a pretentious Australian chef. Service was incredibly slow, menu unrealistically complicated, couldn't deliver on the fancy titles. Sadly won’t be tempted back - what a shame.

Nando's - Camden
With quality food, friendly staff, quick service and excellent value for money, Nando's is a great place to eat. Don't expect identikit, pre-fab restaurant interiors which are usually a staple of the larger chains; each restaurant is tailored to its local surroundings and customers, offering up a unique restaurant experience to go with the equally unique taste of legendary, Portuguese, Peri-Peri chicken.
