Fig Tree, The Description

The Fig Tree opened in 2004, offering a much needed service in a part of Wales that is particularly renowned for its beauty. The Towy Valley, Paxton's Tower and Dryslwyn Castle are all within hailing distance, making this an ideal place for a weekend chill out, family gathering or special function.

Head Chef Tom French is enthusiastic about local produce, and there is certainly no lack of it in this corner of Wales. In particular he likes the challenges posed by the seasons, and the glorious uncertainty of the knock at the kitchen door heralding the arrival of some totally unexpected natural bounty.

Dinner could start with a smoked cod, tomato and asparagus tartlet, or grilled sardines with Pernod and mixed Italian herbs, followed by a Welsh Black (what else?) fillet steak with a char-grilled Mediterranean vegetable compote, topped with Italian Blue cheese and finished with a sweet Madeira jus. Seared venison loin with brandy and figs makes regular appearances, and four local lamb chops pan fried with rosemary and garlic butter really are the tops. A Specials board is also worth watching for the unexpected treat.

With a very credible wine list and service that delivers without fuss, The Fig Tree is a place to be savoured and enjoyed.

Your Reviews of Fig Tree, The

Tim Valler (3 July 2008)

I recently visited The Fig Tree for a friend’s birthday. We all ordered the fillet steak and once we'd hastily consumed them, we agreed that they were among the best steaks we'd ever had.

Ken Ward (29 June 2008)

We had a meal this week and ordered 2 steaks, 1 blue and 1 medium rare, blue was medium, medium rare was nearly well done. Sunday lunch is very good but evening meal poor and over priced, would not go there again.
