Fino Restaurant & Bar

Fino is a very smart affair offering fine tapas dishes in a chic setting. The basement restaurant consists of a sea of white walls and pale wood, made more atmospheric by careful lighting. On the menu you'll find a selection of familiar dishes but plenty of innovation too and the menu is rotated in turn with the seasons to make the most of fresh produce. Dishes such as crispy squid, chorizo with white beans, clams in a rich sherry sauce, salt cod and decadent seafood options all feature. Diners can enjoy their meal either in the traditional Spanish style of eating at the bar or at the comfort of a table. There's also a good wine list and an impressive choice of sherry, making an evening here a very pleasant experience indeed.

Maybe catering expertise can run in families, and if anybody is looking for proof, then go no further than Fino, created by Sam and Eddie Hart, sons of Tim and Stefa Hart, creators of Hambleton Hall and Hart's in Nottingham, two long-time regulars in the Good Food Guide.

Most major food critics seem to have agreed that this is an excellent addition to the London food scene, as it is difficult to get quality Spanish tapas there - or even in Spain. Everything tempts on the menu, and delivers, from excellent Serrano ham, to clams with the right amount of garlic, parsley and broth, diver-caught scallops with a drizzle of pepper sauce, remarkably grease-free calamari, delicious fresh sardines. You can eat as much or as little as you like, but I would be surprised if many could resist and opt for the latter.
