REVIEWS OF Firebird Cafe

Frank Houston (13 February 2009)

We booked a table for fourteen last weekend to celebrate my dad's 70th birthday and after this experience I would not recommend anyone with a party of greater than four going there. We got our main courses about an hour and a half after being seated. We could see other people who came in after us get their food. We specifically asked if the kids food could come with any starters ordered. Admittedly it didn't help our cause when my brother and his two children showed up half an hour late and he proceeded to order a starter - this seemed to throw everything into disarray. However, even after he finished his starter we still had to chase up the staff about the main courses. The banter between the waitresses was light-hearted until we started asking when our food was coming. When one of the kids dishes eventually arrived we were bluntly informed ‘that was the last pasta dish’ as if we should think ourselves lucky. If it was so-called child friendly why didn't they bring out some bread or colouring-in sketch to keep them going? When the food did arrive it was decent and the overall cost was quite affordable. Just don't go in a large party.

I could not disagree more with the other review and feel compelled to write my very first review of a restaurant. We have lived locally for the last six years, now moving to another area and are devastated that we won't be able to walk over to Firebird - a regular haunt for my husband and me with our friends. The restaurant is child friendly; we go with our three year old nephew and one year old niece all the time. There are lots of children there and all are treated very well by the staff. It is unfortunate that some people are so incensed by one incident that they allow it to tarnish their opinion of a very nice place, and subsequently feel the need to put others off - how sad. The food is not the best in Glasgow but it’s hardly expensive. If you are looking for a relatively low cost, friendly and lively restaurant with daily specials, and unusual combinations on pizzas, go to Firebird.
