Firehouse Rotisserie - Bath Description
The Firehouse Rotisserie is a good destination for those looking for food from the American Southwest, Mexico, the Pacific Rim and Creole. Richard and Katie Fenton's years of experience as caterers in California helps validate the authenticity of the Firehouse.
Both their restaurants are housed in restored buildings - the Bristol outlet in a leadworks, still retains some of the original industrial features and offers al fresco dining in summer. The Bath outlet is located in a listed Georgian building, a former wool shop, restored to become the original Firehouse Rotisserie location. The ambience is simple, warm and rustic and is perfect for business meetings and even cosy dinners.
Starters are touchingly referred to as small plates, and offer options such as stone baked mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto with rocket and balsamic dressing, barbecue duck quesadilla with tomato Chile jam and Californian Caesar with herb croutons, shaved parmesan in a creamy Caesar dressing. You also have the option of adding warm rotisserie chicken and bacon to make the salad taste even better.
The pizzas, which are only a whisker or two away from the soubriquet of gourmet, are cooked in a brick-fired oven whilst the rotisserie and grill will be at work on many a familiar dish, including the wonderful six hour baked new season shoulder of lamb with lemon and almond cous cous, mint, coriander and gremolata. The Pacific crab and salmon cakes also deserve a mention.
The wine list is designed by the Great Western Wine merchants to complement the Firehouse menu. Desserts include double chocolate brownie with coconut ice cream and ancho cherry berry crumble. Prices tend to edge on the dear side but there is no doubt, Firehouse offers a square deal.
Your Reviews of Firehouse Rotisserie - Bath
Darren (11 March 2008)
We recently went here for lunch as their pizza was recommended. They were obviously going to be quite busy for lunch, as we had not booked we were placed on a table that was next to the door and seemed to impede people on entry. In hindsight, we probably should have left at that point. Probably a case of squeezing in a table where there wasn't room. Service was slow, given that we were in early for lunch and the restaurant was still empty. They did seem to be trying to attract a certain section of Bath society and others did seem to receive much better service.
We both ordered a pizza, which I must say was lovely if expensive for what it was. The Pizza base was particularly light and tasty - no leaving the crusts here! The sparkling water from Leigh on Mendip was nice but pricey. They do have other items on the menu apart from pizza, which looked quite interesting. Overall, nice for a change from Pizza Hut, but you'll probably be served quicker elsewhere.
