Fish Cafe, The Description

Webbe's Restaurant at the Fish Café is the urban presence of The Wild Mushroom, not far away at Westfield, and run by the same team, headed by owners Paul and Rebecca Webbe. For those looking for light snacks, the café will provide from 11 am onwards, whilst on the first floor the restaurant opens from 6 pm to 9 pm every night of the week. A function suite provides ample space in this historic listed building for up to 70 people. There is no denying the obvious and fish predominates on all the menus but carnivores and vegetarians are by no means precluded.

In the café expect to find a good range of starters, shellfish platters, main courses and puddings with a special menu for children. Much the same approach prevails upstairs in the restaurant, except that the choices tend to be rather more sophisticated and substantial, which is naturally reflected in the prices.

This is certainly a place for everyone, with calming colours in the décor. Built in 1907 this was the first completely fire proof building its kind, a comforting thought should anything untoward happen in the kitchen.

Your Reviews of Fish Cafe, The

Wow! We had eaten there in July and wow what a delicious, lovely meal - that was a real treat, thank you so much. Excellent service, lovely bread, and a lovely atmosphere as well-I am very fussy and this was great - my boyfriend had monkfish and said it was just perfect.

DD (8 May 2007)

Visited the Fish Cafe in late April and can’t praise it enough.

The food was excellent and after an agonising choice went for a starter of scallops (a personal fave) which were the best I have ever tasted followed by monkfish with black noodles which really was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented.

If I had to be critical it would be a very tiny one that some of the waiting staff didn’t know too much about the dishes on the menu but apart from that we were really well looked after by them.

Well definitely be going back next time we are in that neck of the woods.
