FishWorks - Bristol Description

If you like an excellent, highly original fish and seafood restaurant/cafe combined with a fishmongers and cookery school, then this is the place for you. Along with other branches in Bath and Christchurch, FishWorks delivers what it promises, using really fresh ingredients.

It remains loyal to the simple style, high quality produce, service and accessible approach to fish and seafood that has achieved it a host of accolades. These include, The Good Food Guide's 'Best Fish Restaurant 2000' and Country Living's 'Fishmonger of 1999'.

For any lover of dishes piscatorial, FishWorks is a delight, offering choices like: crisp fried goujons of sole with aioli; a plate of their own smoked salmon (wild); fresh Dartmouth crab salad with tarragon mayonnaise and cucumber; spaghetti with clams, chilli, garlic and parsley; chargrilled squid with lemon, thyme and garlic or roasted monkfish with lime and sage leaf - many of their dishes can be ordered as a lighter starter or full main course. Nor is the menu sacrosanct and should you make eye contact with a fishy friend on the slab at the shop and decide you have plans for him, just give the kitchen the broad picture and they'll do the rest.

Wine starts with five choices at £15, and their list naturally concentrates more on whites than red. As all of this is combined with friendly and efficient service, every major town could do with a FishWorks.

Your Reviews of FishWorks - Bristol

Jill Haines (27 March 2008)

My husband and I ate at Fishworks in Bath and were left disappointed. We sat at our table and I declined to take my coat off as the restaurant was very cold. I asked the waiter to turn the under table heater on, he said that they usually don’t put it on. However, he did turn it on but it hardly made any difference. There were several specials on the blackboard but we were informed that two of the main courses and one of the starter specials were off. How could this be when we were the first customers of the evening? The starters were fine and when the main course arrived, we were still waiting for our wine. We sat with our main course for five minutes before our vegetables arrived and when it did it everything, except tomatoes, were cold. By this time my fish had gone cold. I complained to the waiter who said he would tell the chef, I picked at the fish and left the vegetables. We were in the restaurant for seventy five minutes and were served cold food. We will not go there again.

We will never visit this restaurant again and would deter anyone else from going either. My husband and I visited this restaurant on Saturday night, the table we sat at was so close to the tables either side that we felt like we were joining a table of six rather than enjoying a meal between two. The food was disappointing too, I had the clams, which took a long time to arrive and were bitter - my husband had the mussels which were ok, although he felt they were underdone. The main courses were very small and not worth the money we paid - especially since the fish of the day was full of bones, not the most romantic of situations - trying to pick through a fillet of fish!!
