Fitzwilliam Arms

Stamford Road, Marholm, Peterborough, PE6 7HX

On the Milton Estate, just to the west of Peterborough, this traditional pub with a handsome thatched roof looks every inch what beleagured Englishmen dream about as they pretend to enjoy the searing heat beside some Caribbean sweat-hole, sipping their rum betimes. Not that you can't drink quality rum here as well, but you also have a choice of really well-kept traditional ales and eclectic collection of house wines from £10.75, many by the glass, with superior back-up from an elegant wine list. The changing menu is supported by a wide choice of interesting blackboard specials, all served by friendly and helpful staff. Recent refurbishment has resulted in a better layout with no loss of the charm for which the pub is renowned.

Confusingly it sometimes still gets called The Green Man - just in case you have to ask the locals for directions.

REVIEWS OF Fitzwilliam Arms

Wishfulfinkin (7 May 2008)

My party of seven visited on a Sunday. The menu has a superb selection of delicious appetizers and main courses. We all ordered different ones and I managed to sample most, which were cooked to perfection. The staff were accommodating and friendly. Overall, I had two gripes regarding the visit. It took approximately thirty to forty minutes before we were told some of the starters were unavailable and asked to select an alternative, and the time it took for them to be served. However, the quality of the food and the professionalism of the staff made up for it. I’d strongly recommend this restaurant but I think you need to give yourself some time to enjoy.

I have eaten at Fitzwilliam Arms on a number of occasions, and each time it has been delightful. The staff are always friendly and the food is good. At times the food can take a while to arrive, but other than that I have no gripes with them at all.
