Five Horseshoes Description

An out of the way two-bar pub with attachments and some wonderful scenery amidst the Chiltern Hills. The pub is in favoured walking country and the walkers have a bar of their own but in truth it's pretty friendly and all together. A warm salad of chicken and coriander followed by breast of duck with a caramelised orange sauce might not seem all that special but the dishes are prepared well and are consistent. In summer there are barbecues with above average results. A set two course meal will cost you about £10 and there's some very good beers to keep you company if you don't approve of the house wine.

I feel I must express my surprise at the previous review of this pub/restaurant. The reviewer must have been very unlucky as I have eaten at the Five Horseshoes some ten times in the last six months and have found the service exemplary and charming, without exception. The food has been some of the best I have ever eaten - and the various friends that have accompanied me have agreed. It is good to see a restaurant offering fewer choices than is often the case - a sign that each is freshly cooked. The menu changes weekly and offers interesting and seasonal cooking at its very best. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Oh, and the setting is beautiful.
