Floodgates Brasserie at Left Bank

We’ve visited Hereford often over the last few months and always commented that we should eat at The Flood Gates - the setting is very good, overlooking the river with ample parking close by. We have a young child, who unlike some children will eat or try most things on a menu; however, it’s reassuring to see a child friendly menu available just in case. We were greeted with enthusiasm and made to feel comfortable, were then given the lunchtime menu, a smaller snack menu and the children’s menu. Drinks were ordered and delivered to the table, all seemed to be going well, until a male member of staff came up to the table and removed the menu from my child’s hand, stated they no longer serve from the menu and walked away. I did not want to make an issue of it but questioned the very helpful waitress who served us first, she was kind enough to check but unfortunately the menu had been removed. We ordered a meal from the smaller menu for our child, who by the way is five. The meal arrived and each of them were very good, however the burger ordered from the smaller menu for the child was the largest of the three meals and despite my five year olds good appetite he failed to finish an adult meal. I can’t fault any of the meals in the way they were cooked or presented, but I can’t recommend this restaurant to those with young families simply because of their policy of having no child’s menu available. May I suggest a re-think?

A restaurant that this city has been crying out for! The fare is excellent and the monthly 'cruise the world' specials are superb in adding new exciting dishes. Something for everyone even down to best bangers and mash I have ever had for lunch. Not to missed especially in the summer months with river deck seating available. Go now!
