Forge Restaurant & Bar, The Description

Built on the site of an old church, part of the Gothic style remains have been incorporated, with plenty of exposed brickwork to be seen - if you like eating Gothic this is your place. It is certainly elegant, and so what if the odd ghostly choir serenades your meal?

Start with devilled lamb's kidneys on toasted sourdough, or truffled duck egg and smoked ham hock, followed by roasted rump of lamb, rare grilled tuna with aubergine caviar and toasted couscous or veal burger in a garlic focaccia bun.

A baked Williams's pear with Roquefort cheese and walnut crumble makes an interesting and flavour full finish, though many will fall for the pave au chocolat 'Monte Carlo'.

The Forge possesses a wine bar within where 28 wines are sold by the glass and 31 bottles go out at under £20, a pleasant place to start an evening, with decent food to hand if needed.

Your Reviews of Forge Restaurant & Bar, The

Mrgone (15 June 2009)

My partner and I ate there on Saturday and were very impressed with the service. The French waiters being friendly and just that little aloof! They had every reason to be however as the food is gorgeous, highly recommend both the devilled kidneys and the truffled duck egg, both cooked to perfection. As a main we both had the rabbit lasagne, this was both very tasty and extremely filling, the side dish of chips ordered were really not needed but eaten anyway due to them being real chips! I have eaten in a couple of Michelin star restaurants and this meal can happily sit aside them with pride, as the food was as good however the price was well under. Highly recommended!

We ate here as a family, having my teenage son and daughter in tow. We found the service extremely efficient and pleasant, but not intrusive. The waiter was prepared to serve us at our speed and we didn’t feel rushed at all.

The food was excellent; we had the chateaubriand as a main course which was cooked to perfection. The wines were also excellent.

The restaurant surroundings were very pleasant and cosy and there were a number of French tourists eating there - always a good sign of a quality French restaurant.

Overall I would rate this restaurant as excellent - although it is not cheap. I do feel however, you get what you pay for.
