Fox Goes Free, The Description

When William the third went out hunting in West Sussex there was one place he would take his royal hunting party for refreshments and that was a beautiful inn set in the countryside of the Goodwood estate. Today, the inn, perhaps ironically named The Fox Goes Free, has maintained its four hundred year old character by preserving many of the original features including, the bread oven, inglenook fireplaces, low beamed ceilings and brick floors.

The daily changing menu brings to table dishes such as pan-fried chicken breast wrapped in Parma ham with creamed leeks and a red wine and roast partridge with cabbage and bacon and redcurrant. A popular item at the bar is homemade lasagna with chips and salad and sausage and mash with onion gravy and vegetables. Other specialities include fresh butcher's sausage with caramelized onions and sirloin steak with red onions.

A wide selection of beers and ales from the cask and well chosen wines complete the list of attractions.

Your Reviews of Fox Goes Free, The

Gary J (9 October 2007)

Superb, it is the best pub and food for miles around. In the summer, eating in the garden provides the best views of the surrounding countryside. There's an excellent bar menu and fantastic more upmarket menu. All this and a selection of great real ales - what more could you want? In reply to last reviewer we've eaten there several times and have had nothing but top, very pleasant service. Highly recommended by me.

Gareth (13 August 2007)

I give this place a wide berth it's too busy and can't cope. I booked a table in the restaurant for my birthday and waited for forty minutes to order and then another fifty minutes before the very rude old woman at the till made it very clear that she didn't care so we left, it is run by amateurs and not very well.
