Foxcote, The

My family and I eat at the Foxcotes regularly and highly rate the food. The fish soup is amazing as is the duck. I can recommend the scallops in any combination. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is prompt and friendly. What more could you ask for? I'm even hiring the Foxcotes for my wedding reception - a wonderful place, with wonderful food.

We had a Sunday lunch and were hopeful of good food and good value, but... The soup was tasteless until laced with too much salt and pepper, the salmon was cooked to destruction with an accompanying scattering of chewy prawns, and the turkey was over cooked, the roast potatoes tasteless, and the stuffing granite. The dishes of vegetables were overcooked. The menu was three courses for £12.50 for which we expected small portions, but there is no excuse for such poor cooking. There was only keg John Smith’s beer and a pint; well 80%, but I was too thirsty to wait for a top up, and a glass of cooking red wine was £6.35. I tried a glass of red and one of white thereafter, and two small glasses were £8.25, which I felt were lousy value. We couldn't face a dessert of a similar standard and left only to be charged for three courses, in spite of having complained about the quality as several others in our party were doing. It is a while since we were at this restaurant and it will be even longer before we return. There are plenty more places offering better quality and value in Cheshire.
