Foxtrot Oscar

79 Royal Hospital Road, London, SW3 4HN

A Chelsea veteran of over twenty five years standing, Foxtrot Oscar  was updated by Gordon Ramsay into a modern British restaurant. Whether the transformation has worked or not remains a matter of subjective opinion, but there has been an improvement on the food front at Foxtrot Oscar - not too difficult a task under the circumstances. However, much of the ethos of its previous life has been retained, with dishes like hot and cold smoked salmon with horseradish cream and toast, and beer-battered hake, chips, marrowfat peas and tartare sauce. Most offerings are distinctly more posh than before with duck terrine and apple chutney among the starters, followed by mains of beer-braised ox cheeks with carrot purée and char-grilled Dedham Vale onglet steak with marrow butter and roasted mushroom, and apple and cranberry charlotte with crème anglaise to finish.

REVIEWS OF Foxtrot Oscar

Tara (26 July 2010)

My boyfriend and I went to Foxtrot Oscar at the weekend for our anniversary. After reading mixed reviews, I was sceptical but kept an open mind. The restaurant itself was small and cosy, though the tables were a little close. The waitress seated us immediately, was very friendly and helpful, and told us about today's special drinks as we were thinking about what to have. We both started with the waitress recommended champagne cocktail, which was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend is a trained cocktail barman, and said it was made perfectly. We were then served water, warm bread and butter. The waitress asked us if we were ready to order, and we both ordered the Sunday special which was a lamb roast dinner; we both chose medium. We also chose our drinks to go with the meal - I had a glass of chablis which was very nice, and boyfriend stuck with water. Shortly after, our food arrived. It was presented very well and the meat was absolutely delicious and generous. With it was a perfectly fluffy Yorkshire pudding, roast carrots and parsley, corgette, and potatoes roasted in duck or goose fat and of course, gravy. I can honestly say it was the best roast I have ever eaten. Very generous portions, all of the food cooked to perfection, and the gravy was lovely as well. After we had finished, we were given a dessert menu. Although they looked brilliant, I couldn't manage another course to myself, so we decided to get the bitter chocolate mousse with raspberry ripple ice cream, and two spoons. This was also served quickly, and was beautifully presented. Although we were both full from the main course, we managed to clear the plate pretty quickly - it was really lovely. We also noticed that Mr Gordon Ramsay himself was sat in the restaurant having lunch. Overall, it was absolutely wonderful food and great service. Food well worth the money paid. Would very much recommend for a quiet meet up with an old friend, a special occasion, or just a Sunday treat.
